USV Youth 17 Bridgend Athletic 12

After the late withdrawal of Cwmgors on a Friday morning a quick Facebook request tempted Bridgend Athletic down to the Recreation Ground still looking immaculate despite Ystradgynlais firsts playing the previous night.

A good squad turned out for the home debut of the new kit and both teams from the off began to throw the ball around with gay abandon. We were the first to benefit when after a fine Keenan Davies break Alex Jones carried the ball on with some aplomb shooting down the wing and when only meters short and the cover closing in used his power to crash through and over in the corner for our opening try. The game swung back and fore and we looked sharp Ayden Davies carried on his great form from the Resolven cup defeat where he scored a fine try with an outrageous dummy and showed some fine feet to keep moves flowing and looked dangerous every time he had the ball. Bridgend fought back and scored their own try when their outside half was forced wide but like Dorothy following the yellow brick road the he somehow found a gap in the defence and scored a fine individual try in the corner. We were stung back into action and began to stretch the Bridgend defence and create gaps a penalty led to us gaining a line out deep in the  Bridgend 22. There followed a text book training ground line out. The only problem was it included about 4 different line outs and ended up looking like some weird version of the hokey kokey before we were rightfully penalised. Still Bridgend couldn't clear their lines and we set about finding the gaps in their defence Luc Gwilym made a determined effort charging in like Wayne the rock Johnson and then being hurled back like Wayne Sleep due to some great defence. We kept on trying but couldn't break down the doors as Bridgend manfully repelled all our efforts. Ht 5-5

Changes were made at half time and they led to a great start by the boys Lewis Morgan who made any number of carries stormed through the cover and gassed the full back with a fine turn of speed to go under the sticks. Keenan converted and we were off and running. We were beginning to work our way to the end of the rainbow and began to put more pressure on. Another great move led to a huge overlap Drew Michael Anthony Ullah appeared in the line and dummyed, the stretched defence bought it and he strolled in for our third try. We were now in total control and even big Luke Stoneman was hitch kicking like a chorus showgirl. Bridgend had other ideas and showing the courage and pride of their famous son Alfie fought back against us. Their impressive full back forced his way over for a converted try and at 17-12 it was game back on. Jac Catterson then picked up an unusual injury he explained it in other words but basically  he claimed his rectum had exploded and expanded and did a series of weird squat exercises to assist his stricken behind. We were rocking and only stern defence would keep Bridgend out Thomas Carley as usual led the way with a vital steal and we temporarily cleared our lines. Cian Edwards then performed a great tackle and rip that allowed us to clear our lines for one final time as we hung on for a hard fought win.

Final score 17-12 to the USV
Good team effort boys back row outstanding as usual but my mom would be Joel Williams usual rock in defence and some good distribution in attack. Twat would be anyone who took part in that line out!!

On rainbow laces day we have had a bit of fun with the match but are proud to say the USV as a team accept players whatever their circumstances if Ystradgynlais and Abercrave can get together to form a team then everyone is welcome to join us. One final note to say good luck to Gareth "Alfie" Thomas in his recovery after his recent incident all the best butt.
